Mosiah 1

1.1 – Unlike all other books in the Book of Mormon, the Book of Mosiah does not begin with any introductory header. See here.

1.1 – “continual peace” – Mosiah 1:1 states that King Benjamin had “continual peace” for the remainder of his days. He decides to pass the kingship along to his son, which he does, and according to Mosiah 6:3, he lived three more years and then died. In Mosiah 7:1 we learn that his son, King Mosiah, had “continual peace” for the first three years of his reign. Each of these verses is referring to the same three years.

1.12 – “I give unto them a name – Compare Mosiah 5:11.

1.16-17 – Compare King Benjamin’s description of the “ball or director” with Alma’s description in Alma 37:38-47, including “the Lord prepared it,” “it was prepared to show unto our fathers the course which they should travel in the wilderness,” “it did work for them according to their faith in God,” and “they were slothful, and forgot to exercise their faith and diligence and then those marvelous works ceased, and they did not progress in their journey; Therefore, they tarried in the wilderness, or did not travel a direct course, and were afflicted with hunger and thirst.”
